Women, minorities, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ individuals–the list goes on–have fought too hard for their inalienable¬†rights to have the current administration negate them. Human and civil rights cannot just be a “return to normal,” but instead a return to progress. Abortion must be treated like healthcare, which means abolishing the Hyde Amendment and protecting funding for Planned Parenthood. We must rescind the arbitrary deadline for the ERA and ratify it now. We have to address disproportionate minority incarceration for low level drug offenses and amend our misguided approaches to “broken window” policing. Gender identity and sexual orientation must be protected statuses under the constitution and our brothers and sisters with disabilities need firmer work-place protections. We can fight for a more compassionate society that works for all of us, not just a privileged few.
